Issue: While outfitting my 2008 KLR650 for a long on/off-road trip, I needed to find a tank bag that would meet my riding needs. Here is my list of requirements:
1. Must be affordable. I wanted to stay under $150 with taxes and shipping.
2. The tank bag needed to fit well on the KLR’s slanted tank.
3. Ample storage. However, I was willing to give up storage room in exchange for a tank bag that wouldn’t interfere with my legs while standing on the pegs.
4. Must have a map pocket and a separate pocket to store my FRS radio.
Let the search begin!
Solution: It didn’t take me long to find the Fieldsheer Access Tank Bag on the Motorcycle-Superstore site. I was impressed by the number of reviews that provided references for the 2008+ KLR650. All reviews were good, it met all the requirements listed above, including the part where I give up storage space in exchange for more comfort while standing. One of the benefits of the Fieldsheer Access Tank Bag is that the magnets on the four corners of the base fit perfectly under the fairings on the 2008+ KLR650. When installing the tank bag on my KLR, I first loosened the left and right fairings so the base of the tank bag could slide under them. Once the tank bag was in place I tightened the fairing and secure the top two magnets under the corners of the fairings. Then, I tucked the lower section of the tank bag’s base under the top of the seat. (pinched the base of the bag between the KLR’s tank and the top part of the seat). If you haven’t already figured it out, I give the Fieldsheer Access Tank Bag a five star rating and highly recommend it if you’re in the market for a new tank bag for your KLR650.
